One way for a band to tell if they've made it...

If I've incorporated one of their song titles or lyrics into the title of one of my Facebook photo albums.  That being said, based on this criteria, the list of artists that have achieved true superstardom is pretty darn eclectic.

They include:
  • The Schomberg Fair
  • AC/DC
  • Hawksley Workman
  • Billie Halliday
  • Simon and Garfunkel
  • The Tragically Hip
  • The Joel Plaskett Emergency
  • Flight of the Conchords
  • Crosby Stills and Nash
  • The Mountain Goats
  • Counting Crows
  • Green Day
  • The Decemberists
  • Metric
  • Blue Rodeo
  • PJ Harvey

  1. Simon and Garfunkel fandom is genetic in my family, I'm pretty sure. At least they're the only band I, my mother and my grandfather can agree is Teh Awesome.

  2. That's interesting that you did that list because one of my Facebook friends just suggested we all compile our top fifteen favorite songs, and I've been working on that.

After a little while, I realized that the criterion I was using was: "When I heard this tune, it made me crazy."

That's "crazy" as in I felt all weak and swoony. Goosebumps, you know?

Then I decided to organize them by date. Except, I can't finish because the oldest is this Italian renaissance trumpet piece. I only heard it one time on the radio, but it was the most joyful music I ever heard. It was something like "Trumpet Jubilee" or something. I have been searching for it for two days.

"The Sounds of Silence" is one of the songs though. :)

  3. I'm somewhat similar in that I tend to use quotes from films I love. Basically any excuse to slip random lines from Flash Gordon in...

  4. I used to use a lot of lyrics for blog title's too.. I still slip into that every so often.

@Richard.. I'd have a hell of a time trying to narrow down to fifteen favorite songs.

@moody - Sound of Silence is a pretty awesome tune

@oz - I got so much of my tastes influenced by my parents, it's pretty cool when you have something like that to share.

  5. Gah.. I was not quite awake yet when I responded to these comments.. moody, you're comment was aimed at Richard. But I too am a fan of incorporated movie quotes..more into day-to-day discussion, which often results in people looking at me weird.

  6. Yeah, Yandie, It's totally difficult, to get it down to just favorite tunes.

I think I would have different answers on different days.
