So, how about that election?

A Conservative majority? Oh, sorry. A "Harper" majority.

I think Matthew Good put it best (from his facebook page):

Well done Canada. We just gave a majority to a party that was in contempt of Parliament. No government of all 54 Commonwealth nations has ever been found in contempt of Parliament except the one that's being re-elected tonight. Geniuses abound.

 Fuck.

Let's see what others had to say:

Again.  Fuck.

    Sorry about the election.

  2. I have no idea... The Liberals haven't had a leader that inspired any confidence since Chretien started going batty and I'm surprised the NDP did as well as they actually did, considering their underdog status for.. well.. ever. I won't lie and say I'm sad to see the bloc almost obliterated.

Josh - We can only hope.

  3. Joshua, even Creme eggs can't make this one better.

And THAT, my friend, says a lot!

  4. That's what a lot of my far north friends are saying. I used to want to move there for the cold weather, then also for the Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurries. Now...I'm not so sure...

  5. Hey, it's Valerie from Feministe. Didn't want to clutter any more of the comments up with tech issues. Try visiting this URL and downloading the CAW document from there. Hope it works!

  6. Thanks for the link. Turns out I'm just full of fail this evening. Just looked at my download queue and I've got like eight copies of this article. 3 or 4 from the CAW site and another 5 from your site from clicking the links so much.

  8. Wow, how very narrow minded. What exactly did Harper do that was so bad?

  9. For starters, check out the link Valerie posted. Secondly, there was that whole, pesky 'contempt of parliament' thing.

  10. Piss off! It's my right to be anonymous just like it's your right to disagree with me. Harper was forced into contempt of parliament.

  14. Correction: Harper was not forced into contempt. Contempt is not something one can be forced into or out of. He did acts of his own volition, and when those acts were investigated by an unbiased third party, they were found to be in contempt of Parliament.

I really don't understand how anyone other than rich (I mean, 7-figures-a-year-plus-bonus rich) men would want to vote for the man considering he hates everyone that falls outside of this demographic.

  15. "Mr Harper's government was forced into an election after a no-confidence vote in parliament.

It was found to be in contempt of parliament because of its failure to disclose the full costs of anti-crime programmes, corporate tax cuts and plans to purchase stealth fighter jets from the US."

He was forced into contempt because he wasn't being upfront with the country's finances.

    http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/contempt

Contempt (def): An act of deliberate disobedience or disregard for the laws, regulations, or decorum of a public authority, such as a court or legislative body.

As PM he was obligated to be upfront with that information. That he wasn't, added to the shitty record with the social programs, does not instill a lot of confidence.

  16. Does this mean all of those people that left (i.e. "Blue State") after Bush was re-elected will be moving back now?
